Grandma’s Marathon Weekend in Duluth: What to Know & Where to Go

Marathon

Grandma’s Marathon is right around the corner, and Duluth is gearing up for one of its most exciting weekends of the year. Whether you’re a local, visiting from out of town, running the race, or cheering from the sidelines, there’s no shortage of things to see, do, and experience.

Kickoff Events & Expo

The excitement begins early in the weekend with packet pickup, starting Thursday from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM and continuing Friday from 10:00 AM – 8:00 PM. At the same time, visitors and participants can explore the Health & Fitness Expo, which runs alongside pickup and offers something for everyone.

At the expo, you’ll find vendors and exhibits featuring the latest in fitness gear, technology, and health innovations, along with guest speakers presenting throughout the event. It’s the perfect way to get inspired and prepared before race day—and best of all, it’s free and open to the public.

From the Expo to Dining Around Duluth

Dining

After spending time at the expo, many visitors continue the experience right nearby with one of race weekend’s favorite traditions—Michelina’s All-You-Can-Eat Spaghetti Dinner. Held on Friday from 11 AM to 9 PM in the Lake Superior Ballroom, it’s a great way for runners (and spectators) to fuel up ahead of race day.

  • Adults: $20
  • Kids (5–12): $10
  • Ages 4 and under: Free

Of course, if pasta isn’t your first choice, Duluth’s food scene offers endless options. Just a short trip away, Canal Park is filled with popular local spots like Grandma’s Saloon & Grill, Little Angie’s Cantina & Grill, Vitta Pizza, and Cloud 9 Asian Bistro—making it easy to turn a quick meal into a full Duluth dining experience.

Race Weekend in Full Swing

With great food and energy building, the races officially begin on Friday at 1 PM with the William A. Irvin 5K. The excitement continues into Saturday, June 20, with the full and half marathon—bringing runners and spectators together from all over.

Between races, cheering sections, and road closures, the weekend naturally invites you to slow down, explore, and take in everything Duluth has to offer.

Explore

Whether you’re filling time between events or simply enjoying the weekend atmosphere, Duluth’s local attractions are worth the stop.
